Many businesses are now taking full benefit of Facebook’s cover page
and timeline features. It can be said for certain that there is more opportunity there to drive more
traffic to your website than ever before. Shift your Facebook practice of doing your regular
status updates, and try using some of these tips to give your page a boost in both
traffic and image.
1. Change your cover photo
often
Each time you change your cover, an update appears in your timeline.
Your followers see that in their news feed and are more likely to click it to
see what has changed. If you keep your images interesting they’ll be eager to
see what’s new. We humans are visual, sensory creatures.
Some ideas include sharing images from customers, collages of
products, a funny photo, or a dramatic representation. Think about it. Some
people go daily to the Google search page just to see how they’ve redesigned
the Google image for that day. Yes, honestly! Also, the more you show up in their news feed,
the more likely they are to visit your page.
2. Use the “pin-to-top” feature
regularly
You can pin your most important posts to the top of your timeline
every day. Whenever you have a special offer or event you want to promote, make
sure you have it pinned at the top where visitors can see it.
I've only recently discovered for myself how amazing this simple tool is for bringing people's attention to specific postings. I love it.
3. Share images as much as
possible
Statistics show that people these days share images more than text. Perhaps that is because we are so busy these days on the internet, jumping from one bit of reading or writing to another in a flurry, that visual images give our minds some time to rest while still absorbing information.
Whatever the reason, try using a
mix of your own images and those from other interesting sites. Ask customers to
upload or share their own as well. Above all else, keep it simple by not over-thinking the images you post. If it strikes you in any way, and if it evokes an emotion or reaction within you, it will probably do the same for others.
4. Add items to your historical
timeline periodically
As you know, every time you add an event to your historical timeline those
updates will also show up in followers' news feeds. Try to keep a rhythm for yourself, and choose certain days or times to post.
Try to refrain from updating your
history all at once and flooding others' feeds. As I mentioned above, people these days are rushing through all of their info. Piling loads of updates onto your timeline all at once will raise eyebrows at best, and annoy people at worst.
The trick with all of this is to try not to allow yourself to become overwhelmed with social media, and the requirements for 'keeping up' on it. Choose your times, have a week (or two) worth of content ideas to share, and find your flow. As time goes on, it will become second nature. Write, post, share... write, post, share... and go from there.
